Catch up time!!!

Apologies for the lack of updates – life is just so busy – but all very good and Crazy Hats continues to prosper as we prepare for another busy summer period. A new newsletter will be uploaded next week and the diary will be brought up-to-date ……….

Excitement is running high in the Crazy Hats’ camp.  If you have not entered our Walk yet there is still the opportunity to register on the day. Please head for the Celebration Suite but arrive early as there will be queues.  Any problems please ring us – 01933 442999 or email us at We look forward to another great morning at Wicksteed Park. xx
£66,700 donated to Kettering General Hospital!!!

Although we are extremely busy preparing for our Walk on Sunday March 20th we took time out to go over to KGH where we presented a cheque for over £66k to the breast care unit. This money will buy three Gamma Probes that are used in surgery to see if the cancer has spread to the lymph system. These replace probes that we purchased for the hospital several years ago. With many of our team there, we attended a Leadership Meeting in their lecture theatre and received a standing ovation which was very much appreciated. Well done team!!!!  (Photos in the Gallery)

Prior to this we attended a lunch at the Rushden Rotary Club and were presented with a cheque for £3,000 following the sale of tickets at Waitrose in Rushden just before Christmas – we thank them for their amazing support and generosity.  (Photos in the Gallery)

IT IS NOT TOO LATE TO ENTER OUR WALK – Please support our biggest event of the year!!

With just over two weeks now until our 14th Annual Walk we are almost ready for another great day filled with fun, laughter and a lot of emotion.  There is still plenty of time to enter so, even though you can register on the day please don’t delay. Enter online, download an entry form or ring us.

Next week we will be presenting Kettering General Hospital with over £66,000 for new and updated surgical equipment. This amount was raised from last year’s walk sponsor money – thank you to everyone who made this possible. Now we are looking to find bigger and better premises so your sponsorship money this year is, once again, very much-needed.  Thank you.

With just 4 weeks to go before the day, Walk entries are coming in well, although there has been some confusion with people entering online.  We would like to make it clear that you do not need a PayPal account to make a payment. At the end of adding your names and details you will be directed to the Paypal page to make payment – there may be a slight delay so don’t think the system has gone down. Payment is made from your payment card into our PayPal account. Please be assured this is completely safe and secure. Any problems please do ring us. (01933 442999) The next few days will be really exciting as we receive the bulk of the entries …. and remember, you can always enter on the day. Thank you. x

At last, after two frustrating weeks, our BT landline is now working as it should be.  Now we look forward to concentrating on ‘The Walk’ which really is fast approaching. Planning for this is going very, very well and entries are beginning to come in nicely – always a slow start but the next few weeks will see the postman very busy!  If you are thinking of entering, either individually, or as a team, please get your entry forms in early to help us with the admin.  Remember, all sponsor money will be used to either fund agreed projects at both KGH and NGH and/or used towards our new premises project which we will keep you updated on as soon as there is news.  Exciting times at the office with the diary filling up with the summer carnival dates and even the shopping centre dates for October – Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Please let us know if you would like to hold a fundraising event for us. Thank you. xx

It has been a long time in the making but we feel the time and effort spent on this site will be well-worth it knowing that we can now get information out to you in a more comprehensive and modern way.  Special thanks are extended to Mike Featherby whose expertise and assistance (and patience) has been invaluable. Mike has worked with us before and was the creator of our other website:  There are still pages that need our attention but with so much coming up we felt it important to go live now rather than wait any longer.  We would welcome your comments. If there is anything else you would like to see, or feel is needed on the site, please contact us. Happy surfing!

2016 – WHAT LIES AHEAD ………?

Last year we celebrated having raised over £2 million in the 14 years we have been around – it was an amazing year and the support for the charity was, once again, wonderful – thank you.  Now, as a new year starts, so does our quest to help even more people whose lives have been affected by breast cancer.  In 2015 we, sadly, had to attend the funerals of too many breast cancer patients, many of them young.  We know we cannot solve the mystery as to why breast cancer is so prevalent but, in our small way, we can do, and will do, our utmost to support those who are going through the rigours of coping with the disease. One way in which we want to do this is to find bigger and better premises in the area in order to cope with the numbers coming through our doors on a regular basis.  This will be the emphasis of our work as we plan more and more exciting fundraising events throughout the year and attend events and receive donations from so many generous and loyal people across the county and beyond who believe in what we do. Architects have been working on suitable ideas for a new-build but our options are open as finding a suitable piece of land is a headache. A percentage of all monies raised this year will be put towards our project but we will still be supporting our local hospitals with agreed projects, as we have been doing ever since we started our fundraising. (We are not far off giving £1 million to Kettering General and the same for Northampton General – thank you to everyone for making this happen).

Thank you so much to everyone has sent in their knitting and who continue to support this exciting project. If we could have all your contributions in by the end of the month we would be very grateful.

Crazy Hats Breast Cancer Appeal

As you can see by the photographs posted, we have received a fantastic amount of pink bows (all sizes) and flowers etc. from Cornwall to the Scottish Isles and others on their way from abroad. Thank you so much - every day brings new stories! Keep them coming - especially the 12" garter stitch strips!!
🎗️🎗️🎗️🎗️ Please could you let us know by posting a comment if you are knitting/crocheting for us and that you can get them to us by the end of August?
🎗️🎗️🎗️🎗️ The ordered bunting, to which your bows will be attached is on its way. We then have a lot of sewing to do! Coleman's Craft Warehouse in Rushden have very kindly offered us use of their spacious crafting area in September to do this - will post dates later!
🎗️🎗️🎗️🎗️ The little 6" strips that have been made into bows will be used at our Thanksgiving Service at All Saints Church in Wellingborough on Thursday October 18th, as will many of the larger bows. (Please put this date in your diary!) The little bows and flowers will also be used to embellish our 'life-size' knitted pink bows (see photo - this one, in the making, is 17 feet long!) which you will see wherever we are in October.
🎗️🎗️🎗️🎗️ Please could you let us know of any shops, surgeries, places of work who would be willing to display a length of bunting (with explanatory information) throughout October (Breast Cancer Awareness Month)?
🎗️🎗️🎗️🎗️ This very exciting project has SO much potential - thank you again for the great community spirit shown - happy knitting!! xxxxx 🎗️🎗️ P L E A S E S H A R E / PLEASE ALSO POST PHOTOS OF YOU AND / OR YOUR GROUP KNITTING🎗️🎗️

MUCH progress is being made!!!!! Thank you to everyone who is sending in their knitted/crocheted pink bows etc. (from all over the country - so many stories to tell!)
🎗️Here is a very simple mock up of what the bows are being made into …. we have ordered the bunting in 5m lengths and will be attaching 24 of the bows to each length. With 200 lengths being ordered we are going to need approx. 5,000!!!!!!!! (of the 12" knitted strips). WE CAN DO IT!
🎗️We are then inviting shops/pubs/doctor's surgeries/hospitals gyms/schools/workplaces ……. (everywhere!!) to display bunting throughout October - together with an explanatory poster to explain what we are doing - and why?
🎗️Why? Simply, but in a very different way, to promote the awareness and importance of breast cancer awareness itself to encourage ladies to take up their appointments and to regularly check themselves. (Men too!).
🎗️If you are still knitting it is the 12 stitches x 12" length of knitted strips we need more of (preferably in garter stitch as these are proving to be more stable).
🎗️If we could have your contributions in by the end of August please when we will be arranging a very big 'sew in'!!
🎗️The little 6" bows are being used in our church service (Thursday October 18th) and to embellish 'life-size' bows we have made for when we are out and about the county.
🎗️ Apologies for the lengthy post but we need to keep everyone up to date with this wonderful project.
